She marrys Onler kom ( Darshan Kumar) and concieve two twin kids. How she become the five time world champion despite all the odds? Is crux of the story.
Omung kumar has choosen a tough subject to made his debut. A sports biopic is always the biggest challenge for any director. Omung should deserve applause for his brave attempt. He is inspired by the Indian female boxer, mary kom’s life. He has shown how mary kom reaches the summit of success with the help of her spouse and also highlighted the Government apathy towards athletes. What went wrong in the movie is its screenplay. It is too flat, there are a few errors in the movie. The man at the helm has failed to keep the audience in engage mode. Editor should have chopped off extraneous songs. Background score composed by Rohit Kulakarni synchronized very well with the visuals. Cinematographer did a brilliant job. Production values are extremely good.
Priyanka chopra has done a good job. She tried her best to look alike marykom. Darshan kumar fits in the role of Onler kom. He has given his best to the character. Sunil thape essayed the role of mary kom’ s coach. His character is quite poorly written even though he did a good job. Robin Das’ s performance is passable. Rest of the cast have supported well.
Most of the scenes especially in the ring looks like filmy which are not proper for a biopic. The silver lining of this movie is Priyanka chopra’s outstanding performance. If the screenplay was much better mary kom would have been a blockbuster. However, Marykom is worth to watch for their brave attempt.
