In Telugu cinema, It is very rare to see horror films sustain at the box office. Moreover, We haven’t come across sequels to more horror films. But Ravi babu dared to do a sequel film to his own horror film Avunu. The director roped in all the original actors in this second part as well. Harshavardhan rane and poorna played the lead roles. Ravi babu himself producing this sequel under the banner of flying frogs in association with suresh productions.
Avunu part 2 kicks off with an old woman narrates the ordeal of a newly married couple Mohini (Poorna) and Harsha (Harshavardhan rane) which the couple come cross in the first part. Then the couple relocates to heart of the city from outskirts.Molester captain raju ( Ravi babu)’s spirit follows the couple and tries to molest mohini again. Mohini gets a talisman from kasi to get rid of ghost. Will Captain raju’s spirit get what he want? How Poorna and Harsha get rid of ghost? Forms the crux of the story.
The prequel is a super hit film, But this time Ravi babu come up with a lame movie which doesn’t have even a proper story. Most of the run time shooted on Baddie’s lust on the female lead. I harldy found story except lust in the intial half. The director has completely failed to repeat the magic, What he did in the first part. Though run time is 148 mins it is neither scary nor entertaining. Camerman puts a lot of close ups for what a horror thriller need.Shekar chandra scored background score is outstanding and it is perfectly synced with the visuals.
The whole film runs on a spirit, which tries molest the female lead. Poorna did an outstanding job in her role. She has emoted very well in climax. Though Harshavardhan’s role is quite shorter than previous part, He did a decent job. Ravi varma, who is supposed to tickle the funny bone, gets under the skin of viewers. Hai actress nikita played a nice cameo role, which has minimal importance. Sanjjana did a fair guest appearence. The supporting cast are alright in their respective roles.
Overall, Avunu2 is blended up with a decent performance by the lead actors, No scary elements and weak story. In climax we come across a small twist but it has nothing to do with the main plot.Background score by shekar chandra is the only saving grace of the film. Not worth to watch it on the big screen. I will go with two and quarter out of five stars.
