Garuda – a great philosophical significance symbol
Garuda is carrier of Vishnu .One has to know the story of gajendra moksham for better understanding
A elephant named Gajendra went to a lake and playing there. It like it very much and doesnot come out of that even after many hours .Suddenly a crorcodile caught him and Gajendra unable to move and fight prayed Vishnu for help. As Vishnu takes care his devotees he comes down to earth on garuda and helps Gajendra .Gajendra sings a stotra known as Gajendra moksha stortra
The significanc eof the story is as Gajedra every human is in Maya illusion and he neer wants to come out of it and keep on doing it .At some point of time it caches human and he suffers due to it. So if he askes for help Vishnu comes on garuda to rescue him .It means when jeevatha is in trouble Paramatma helps and liberates from Maya .So Garudatma is the vehicle or connection point between god and Human .
So in vishnu temples we can see garuda in front of temple or on temple door signifying a connection between god and human .Every human has to cross Garuda when entering the temple. So next time entering just see garuda and ask him for help before even praying to lord Vishnu
