Weekend Special Story – Liberal Arts Film analysis

The plot …I want to put in my own words but it is a very simple story with complex philosophy. So I am quoting the plot from Wiki

Jesse Fischer (Radnor) is a 35-year-old college admissions officer in New York City who loves literature and language, but is newly single and dissatisfied with his life and career. He believes that the happiest time of his life was the years at his unnamed Ohio liberal arts college, where he could study poetry uninterrupted, surrounded by others like him. Peter Holberg (Jenkins), his old English professor, invites Jesse back to the college to attend Peter’s retirement ceremony. Jesse meets 19-year-old Zibby (Olsen), a sophomore studying drama and the daughter of Peter’s friends

Liberal arts is the story of a single man who is searching for happiness and he is a child in his own world.he never wants to grow up that can be both good and bad.But if you cant utilize that energy it leads to self destruction.Story is about how a 35 year old man (who thinks like a 20 ye man because he doesn’t want to grow up) having a romantic relationship with a  19 year old girl(who thinks like an adult -she always thinks she is more mature than her friends ).Movie depicts a fact that no body wants to grow up.In every man there is a Jesse inside us.When he first comes back to his collge you can see the joy by hugging trees, sleeping on grass and seeing students playing volleyball .There is something magic in college life.In one scene hero says ‘I like college because this is the only place we can believe in impossible things once we step in real world we will be bogged down by responsibilities’.

When movie progresses you can see heros maturity grows up when his former  teacher peter says ‘when he is teaching he is always surrounded with teens ,teachers should feel mentally as teens but shouldn’t forget the facts that they are grownups’.At some point of life we has to leave the students mentality and act like responsible. We often here the memories of our college days from friends, collogues and partners but we shouldn’t stuck in those memories instead have to dealt with growing old in a happy way.

Movie focuses on book reading habits and how it can shape our thoughts either good or bad.A good book will always makes you a better person when you truly believe in that .Randor who acted, wrote and directed this movie did nice and all other cast is good. There is a feel in this movie on growing old, college days and love

Finally liberal arts is a good watch and philosophy in the movie is great. Instead of preachy they included in the script with lots of humor.25-30 year old will definitely related to this movie very much. A very rare cinematic feeling you will get on watching this beautiful movie.Watch it on this weekend
